Plasencia Adding Robusto To Alma Fuerte Line

The full-bodied Plasencia Alma Fuerte line is getting a robusto size next year. According to brand owner Nestor Andrés Plasencia, the 5 1/4 inch by 52 ring gauge cigar should be hitting the market in February.

“It’s the same blend as the Alma Fuerte line,” Plasencia told Cigar Aficionado, “but in a smaller vitola to be enjoyed in the winter time.”

Called Robustus I, the upcoming size is the first addition to the Alma Fuerte line since it came out in 2016, bringing Alma Fuerte to four sizes. Like the rest of the line, the Robustus I is packaged in the same 10-count box that also doubles as an ashtray. It’s set to retail for $18.65 per cigar. “Like the name of our company,” Plasencia added.

Plasencia Alma Fuerte cigars are made with aged Nicaraguan tobacco grown by the Plasencia family, who has a vast library of vintage leaf. While the primary component is Criollo ’98, Alma Fuerte is a strong blend of tobacco from four of Nicaragua’s growing regions: Estelí, Condega, Jalapa and Ometepe.

The Generacion V size was named the No. 9 cigar of 2017 by Cigar Aficionado.

Plasencia Alma Fuerte cigars are made in Nicaragua at the Plasencia Cigars S.A. factory, and distributed by Plasencia 1865.
